Smaller First Person Bio
Hey everyone, my name is Leo. Welcome. This site was originally created to update friends about my health condition after I suffered a spinal cord injury in 2009. A lot has happened since then….a whole lot. I am a comedian, motivational speaker, filmmaker and currently, I attend the University of North Carolina – Greensboro. Feel free to hit me up or come check me out at a show.
Larger Third Person Bio
Leo Hodson is Greensboro’s own self described, “Sit down stand up.” After an accident rendered him quadriplegic five years ago, Leo turned not to depression, but laughter. Now, Leo is a fixture of the North Carolina comedy scene. He has appeared at the Carolina Theatre, the Charlotte Comedy Zone, and the Art Center of Carrboro. He’s performed in theaters, clubs, bars, classrooms, malls, hospitals but he’s most at home at The Idiot Box Comedy Club. This is where he regularly participates in the Friday Night No Nonsense shows and hosts “Sit Down with Leo Hodson” as part of the kid friendly sketch variety show. In his stand up, Leo talks openly and humorously about his injury and life with a disability, but he doesn’t stop there. His ‘all audiences’ act touches on a wide array of topics from dating to television to clever observations on everyday life. It is this unique style and delivery that made him a UCC finalist last year and second place winner of the 2013 Carolina’s Funiest Comic contest. It’s unclear where comedy will take Leo next, but it’s a safe bet that he’ll roll with it. Leo has had the opportunity to open for some of the nations top talent including Eddie Brrill, Sara Schaefer, Scott Moran, Tom Simmons, Sean Patton and many more.
His funny credentials include but are not limited to:
- Finalist in the 2013/14 “Ultimate Comics Challenge” placed 2nd out of 60.
- Officially selected to perform at the 2014 North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival
- Finalist in the 2012/13 “Ultimate Comics Challenge” placed 4th out of 56.
- Finalist in the 2013 “Carolinas Funniest Comic Competition” placed 2nd out of 30
- Officially selected to perform at the 2013 Cape Fear Comedy Festival
“My goals include walking, independence, world peace, curing all cancers, getting on the cast of Saturday Night Live, earning an Academy Award and ultimately falling in love. I would like to thank God, my family, my friends and those that have supported me along this journey.”
